"Deputy is Southern Gothic literature--a complex tale of flawed but fascinating characters, mystery, and the supernatural. Paints images that burrow into your soul, captures the grand stage and social order of 1970, explores race relations and narrows divides. Twists and turns keep you guessing and gasping. Graveyards, mobsters, murder, seduction, and irony...a story that won't let you go."-- Jim Clemente, Criminal Minds
Reviews:
Take a deep breath...Merle Temple will take you on a roller coaster ride gasping for air. Filled with murder, temptation, mystery, and anticipation, Deputy is a thought-provoking, nail-biting, intriguing masterpiece that stimulates your mind and stirs your soul. Stereotypes and racial boundaries are displayed in such a creative way that you're challenged to revisit the 70's to take inventory of your own life. - Tammie Tubbs, Christian Television Network
I can see why this book has potential for a TV series. Merle Temple paints a vivid canvass of Mississippi in the 1970's. He draws you into the characters with their strengths and flaws and either makes you care about what happens to them or punch the air when the bad guys get what is coming to them! This is a rollercoaster ride which sweeps you along into a world of religion, criminal activities and racism that leaves you reeling. There is so much going on that my attention was held all the way through. I come from the UK so I have no idea about this part of the world but Merle describes it so vividly that by the end of the book I felt I knew the place. - Kim Padgett-Clarke
Wow, what a thrill ride! This book holds you captive from the first page to the last! Michael Parker? Check. Murder? Check. Mayhem? Check. Mobsters? Check. Intensely descriptive scenery? Check. The distinctive flavor of the Deep South? Check. Good guys? Bad guys? Glad to still be alive guys? Check, check and check! It is clearly evident why this is under contract for production of a TV series. If it plays out anywhere near as riveting and exciting as the Michael Parker series of books, it is going to be a smashing success! - Tam

I had read this book but wanted to listen to it audibly. I know the author personally and one of the characters is based on myself. I know the voices and it is strange hearing them different in the audible book. This is the start of a series and I look forward to the others being offered here. This is a great series of book. The author really does have a way with words and makes you feel as if you are there.
